Hello,
I have a Western Digital 1 Terabyte external HD USB 2
It was running for years via my computer as a storage for my family history. It was easy to detach. Finished with Family History, I had no need for the Ext HD.

My Recorder at the TV allows me to move recorded programs to a USB ext HD. To do this, I had to register the Ext HD. This I did.
I move three programs of the recorder HD to the external HD.

I was thinking I could now download one in particular to my computer HD (Acer XC-240 Win 10 Desktop).

I plugged the Ext HD into the computer and the PC does not recognise it. The device list shows it is there but the computer will not recognise it.

Did the formatting by the Recorder for TV/Recorder use, remove the PC recognition format?

If so, how do I get my WD External HD to be recognised on my Acer XC-230 Desktop - again?
It's not showstopping if it doesn't work the way I thought it would, but a very interesting exercise if I can get it to work in both places.

Plug the WD drive into your desktop computer.
Press the Win key+X choose Disk Management
In the lower pane your drive should show up. It probably says the the file system is Unallocated Space. If so, right click it and choose make a New Simple Volume. Then Format NTFS.
If you want to use it on your TV recorder, you have to format it FAT32. The problem with FAT32 is that none of your files can be larger then 4GB in capacity. If the shows on the recorder are 4GB or less and you are not planning on saving any large files, the Format it FAT32.
If the Disk # (ie) Disk1, Disk2 etc says the drive is Not Initialized, then right click the disk # and Initialize the drive, then follow the above instructions.
