Hello, sorry for spamming. I read lot of articles how to remove write protection i tried the one with registry thing, ale one with diskpart and still nothing. Even tried to check disk. My disk worked well, i think 2 days ago i used it normally, copied and erased stuff, but today, i cant do that anymore. In attachments you can see all errors, and also screen from command prompt
I have windows 10, and have WD Elements 25A1 USD 1.5TB.
I read articles where they solved it with attr volume clear readonly or attr disk clear readonly but that does not work for me.
Pls help

Write protection is used by disks to prevent further corruption in case the hard drive is failing.

As a first step, please backup all your important data to another disk/external hard drive, while you cannot write, you can definitely read all data..

Download WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and run it and do the short and long tests to ensure the drive is healthy before performing additional steps on removing the write protection.

You can try from an Elevated Command Prompt chkdsk D: /f /x /r and press enter

i tried both things, pls see attachments.
Run both checks and disk pass and seems to be okay and command prompt that i run as administrator does not allow me to run that command cos disk is write protected

My bad... Removed what I typed earlier...

Your subject mentions this is an external drive..

Was this disk formatted and used on a MAC earlier ?

Was Bitlocker or any such encryption software used to encrypt the drive ?

In that case, go back to diskpart

Provide the text of
list disk
select the appropriate disk number here for the ext drive.
list volume

attr disk clear readonly

attr volume clear readonly

Use the detail command again and let us know what is there..

In a rush so couldn't use code tags..

@tristar, the OP did that in the OP.

In Data Lifeguard, do the Extended Diagnostic test. This will take a long time

Chances are great the drive is corrupted beyond repair. Or the USB Controller in the Enclosure is causing the behavior.
You can try disassembling the enclosure and remove the HDD and attach it internally to a Desktop computer, via a USB Adapter, Dock or Different Enclosure with a power adapter and see what happens.
