I have an almost new 250gb hard drive I took out of an Inspiron Mini 1012 when I installed a new SSD. This is the complete Win7 OS. Is it possible to boot the Dimension 4600 from this drive via USB? If not, is it possible to install as a second or even main drive?

I doubt it will run as the motherboard video lan etc drivers are all very machine specific. Windows 7 doesn't seem to like to boot hard drives via USB. Yes if this is a desktop it can be used as a 2nd drive to store data etc.

To Add to what Networks said, when you install Windows on a drive in a particular computer, it takes a snapshot of the Motherboard and Chipset and loads specific drivers for that motherboard. When you remove the drive and put it on another computer with a different board, When Windows boots, it looks for the previous Chipset and it doesn't find it so it will BSOD or not boot.
