I do not fully understand the question. So when you connect your external hard drive to the laptop it disconnects and then reconnects automatically in that order?

The WD external drives have known issues with the USB Connector going bad / breaking on the hard drive side of the connection that may be the problem I would make sure you have a backup of the data before the connector breaks for good and you no longer can access the data . BACKUP UP NOW !!!

cocoroco08 did you already find a solution on your problem? I'm also having same problem as yours but I'm using the regular Asus N43SL laptop. WD External HD works fine when connected to USB 2.0, problem only occurs when I connected it to USB 3.0 port. I've also tried using WD My Book USB 3.0 connected to my USB 3.0 port but it works fine. I need your help pls. thanks
