Greetings! I just upgraded to Windows XP from Win 98. Windows does not recognize my 2nd hard drive (40 gig). Worked fine before upgrade. The hard drive shows up in device manager as disc 1 (no letter assigned). How can I get this to work?

you need to partition the HDD and go into BIOS as well and make sure the HDD shows up there

My System

Hang on, the device is showing up in device manager, so hasn't the BIOS already detected it?

I seem to remember needing to mount the drive in windows for the first time once... I think you right click on the device and in the menu select something like 'Mount Drive' - hopefully Windows will start recognising the HDD then.

>> Right cllick My Computer > click Manage > click Disk Management >>
You can initialize, partition, format, and change the drive letters of all your drives.
