I recently purchased the "Toshiba External 1TB Desktop Harddrive Store alu" and after I got it working and transfered most of my work over there I suffered a power cut. NOW it doesn't allow me to access any of my files and it keeps freezing on me and asking me to Format!!

I have tried everything (apart from formating) to try and retrieve my stuff but i fear i'm at a loss. Is there anything you guys know that can help me retrieve my stuff?

NOTE: After my PC starts, i switch it on and it takes a while to load up, then the file reader (little box with the torch) pops up and it's obvious it's reading plenty of files as it did before, only this time it doesnt show the name of the files as it did prior to the power cut. When i click on the J: drive it freezes for ages then asks me to format

HELP!!

Sounds like a corrupt partition table or MBR - try Testdisk and see if you can identify the error and correct... sticky on operation here https://www.techsupportforum.com/f16/...er-194492.html

I'll give that a try mate thank you very much. Do you reckon it'll work on external USB hd's?

It should, but if it doesn't, you may need to remove the drive from the external enclosure and attach it directly.
