Before I continue I want to let everyone know I did just go over both the top stickies on "hidden" hard drive and installing a new one but didn't find anything particular that I missed in the install sticky. As far as the missing, it said if it's partially viewable to use those steps and my hard drive is 100% not viewable so I didn't want to start all that unless it is indeed what I need to do.
Here's what I did. Found a 160gb Western Digital hard drive on craigslist for 10$ and couldn't pass it up since I'm currently running out of room and my plan to purchase a 1tb hard drive isn't financially attainable at the moment.
I was running my stock 40gb hard drive and my 160gb Western Digital in the second slot. They were both IDE. My friend hooked up the second one for me a long time ago. Now, I removed the 40gb and gave it to a friend that needed it. Moved all my information stuff onto my 160gb Western Digital hard drive and unplugged it. Plugged in the new 160gb Western Digital SATA hard drive and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7. Plugged the 160gb Western Digital IDE hard drive with all my stuff on it back in and I don't see it?...
:4-dontkno
I did quite a bit of digging before hand. I did try to resolve the problem myself first. The hard drive isn't showing up in my computer. Computer>manage>disc management, don't see it... I checked bios boot order and it's set to boot cd-dvd first, then hdd 0, then hdd 1. So isn't that fine?...
Also, while reading over hard drive installs I noticed this jumper thing. Well my old IDE hard drive has the jumper in the 2nd to last of the 5. I moved it to first, second, removed it completely and put in the SATA hard drive. Nothing good. I just got an error on startup so I put it back where it was and stopped messing with it. Error was:
Intel(r) Boot Agent FE v4.1.10
Copyright (C) 1997-2003, Intel Corporation
Intel Base-Code, PXE-2.1 (build 083)
.......(more copyright stuff)
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
1962: No Operating system found. Press F to repeat boot sequence.
I've given up at the moment. So I'm going to leave it to the pros. Hope someone can help me out hear. I've read online people running SATA and IDE hard drives together no problem. I even read on one thread someone saying "it's easy you just install your SATA, your OS, then get it all running, then plug your IDE hard drive in." Just like I thought I was going to do but I guess not.
If it makes a difference this second hard drive is solely going to be being used for storage and I'd like to keep the operating system on this hard drive so I can keep a limited amount of installed programs on it and keep heavy stuff like music on the one that I'm having problems seeing right now.
