i just bought a 1tb hardrive from microcenter and installed it on my dad's computer. but its not showing up on the "my computer" but when you enter into the bios it say the new hardrive is there. What should i do.
Right click on My Computer and select manage. Select Disk Management on the left hand side, then it should show on the right. It needs to be formatted is all.
Disk management will show each physical drive separately. The drive0 will be your c: drive, the new drive will show as RAW for the file system and drive1 for which physical drive it is, if it's the only other drive besides the operating system drive, you can usually tell by the size of the drive, a 1TB drive should show as approximately 930MB. Once you see it, right click on the new drive and then select "new partition" which will launch the partition wizard. You can make one partition using the entire drive, or make the first partition any size you want. If you go with multiple partitions, after you make and format the first one, when you go back into disk management the rest of that drive would show as unpartitioned space, which you could in turn partition and format.
