Seagate Free Agent Go Flex 1.5 Terabytes

What is the proper way to turn off Seagate Free Agent Go Flex 1.5 Terabytes ?

There is no on/off button for it ?

I just save all current data, umount the device and pull off the power cord from a.c. plugin..

Is that the proper way to do that ?

This is first time I see a external hard drive with a.c. adapter which doesn't have on / off switch. Why don't they have one ? Is it because it is cheaply built ?

Thanks.

Most external drives from Seagate & WD don't have a power switch because they don't really need one, and, as you guessed, fitting one would cost more money for no good reason.

When you power down your PC or disconnect the USB cable, the drive automatically stops spinning anyway (even if it's mains-powered). There may be still be a standby light flashing on it depending on how your mobo is wired up, but that's all. The drive itself is inactive.

Therefore you do not need to pull the power cord unless the flashing light (if there is one) annoys you. Pulling the power cord does no harm if the PC is off or you have first used the "Safely remove hardware" icon and waited for the okay message.
