Help. Have retrieved SATA drive from laptop and am trying to access using a USB adapter cable. Drive should still be ok, its the power port on the laptop that is faulty. I would expect to be able to read the drive as you would any other USB device. The Drive is 160GB.
Any suggestions
Thanks

Does the USB Adapter come with a power brick/adapter? And are you using it? Be sure to plug into directly into the Wall socket and not a surge protector or Extension cord as this will diminish the power. Does the drive spin up with just the power cable attached? Plug the USB cable into the Back USB port of the computer and not the front or through a Hub as these ports are weaker.
Thanks for the quick response - No power cable with adapter but the drive is whirring away, all lights on, have USB cable plugged into the only 2 USB ports on side of laptop, the adapter comes with 2 USB jacks. Is there something else that I should do. Tx E
Are you plugging both USB cables in? the Red USB cable boosts the power. If all else fails try a Powered USB Hub or try an adapter with a power brick as in the link in post #2
