Hello,
I have a 1.5TB external HDD running over USB, which had two partitions: A hidden smaller one for the pagefile (HDD used to be internal), and the main partition (NTFS) with all my data on it. The drive was more or less running 24/7.
A few days back, after switching it off and back on, I noticed the error message that there may be corrupted files on the drive, and I should use CheckDisk, which I did. There were no errors. So I started Acronis DiskDirector, but with the same result. While I was at it, I decided to simply delete the pagefile partition since I didn't need it. There was an error in the deletion process and now the entire drive appears as the pagefile partition, but that the drive is empty. The HDD partition appears invisible in Windows and is only able to be seen in DiskDirector.
As the files are very important to me and I am scared of losing them for good, I have since then not tried to recover or repartition the drive out of fear of losing everything for good. And since the failed repartitioning process didn't take more than a a few seconds, I am positive that the files are still on there, just not accessible.
Is there any way of properly recovering the files? I was told to use SpinRite by a friend, but it requires DOS, which doesn't support NTFS nor the size of the hard drive.
I would greatly appreciate if a file recovery is possible.
Thanks in advance,
Ray
