Ok first post here and appologies as its been covered before, but I cant resolve it.

My nephews pc wont boot up. Details of it below. It worked fine, was shut down ok and then just wouldnt restart. Ive tried changing the boot order and unplugged all external devices - no change. Tried to boot up from an XP disk but it couldnt find the HDD. Booted from a Partition manager disk which see's all the drives etc so all their files and software are there somewhere. Went as far as to put a fresh hard drive in and tried to install XP and win7 but neither could find a drive to install on.

They have no back up or boot disks for the pc so Im now stuck. Any ideas what to do next?

The only previous problem has been that it looses the date and time when its shut down even though ive changed the battery. (date etc was corrected in BIOS each time i attempted to start it).
