I'm giving a laptop to a friend and I want to make sure none of my personal files are recoverable. I'm thinking of using DBan but I want to make absolutely sure of what's going to happen before I do this. I've read all the documentation on it and I've got some questions.
The laptop is a compaq that let me make recovery cd's.
1. Will the recovery CD's work right after using DBan or will I have to do a format to get the drive into FAT32 or NTFS format?
2. Will the recovery CD's install all the drivers the computer needs? I read in the DBan documentation that they may not depending on circumstances, but it sounded like that was talking about using an actual windows install disc and not recovery discs.
3. The laptop has a recovery partition. Is this recovery partition used by the recovery discs or is the purpose of that partition only to actually make the recovery discs?
4. Going further with the previous question, I've used the recovery discs in the past and the recovery partition has never gone away. Is there any purpose to having a recovery partition if I've got recovery discs?
Answers to these questions would be much appreciated.
