Old motherboards v/s Large volume HD

Can anyone tell me whether that Old motherboards support hard disks of capacity larger than 64gb. I have a 80gb HD of Seagate installed on an old motherboard of Mercury.

Now whenever I install an Operating system it works firn with 1st restart. But after second second restart it gets stucked on login screen.
CAn anybody help me.
