I have a Lenovo T41 laptop with XP. It is not recognizing my new samsung usb 250 gb hdd. It shows up as usb mass storage device in safely remove hardware but when i go to computer management it does not show up there. the only drives that show up are my main hdd and the dvd. how do i get this thing formatted?
in device manager under status it says device is working properly. should i try to uninstall it from there, unplug it, let it rest for a minute and plug it in again and let windows try to find it?
Laptop usb ports seem to be getting weaker and weaker as there are also fewer and fewer of them. I would bet you need a cable which would allow you to plug into 2 usb ports to see it if it is self or usb powered.
I plugged it into my gf's hp g60 running vista and it's recognized in disk management!!
It says it's not initialized so i right click on it and select initialize. it returns with "the request could be performed because of an i/o device error".
it came with what i guess is a y-vable. it's got 2 male usb connectors on one end and the other end plugs into the hdd. i've only been plugging in one usb connector, should i plug in both?
Ok, tried that but got the same error message when I teied to initialize it.
