My System

Hey there guys. I need some major help. I have a Compaq Presario S4000NX PC which all of a sudden started acting up and I cant figure out the problem.

The specs are 2.4GHz Intel Celeron CPU, 640MB RAM (128/512), and 40GB Western Digital WB400 EIDE hard drive.

I had to do a restart after windows was done updating itself. So I went ahead and restarted the PC. Everything was going fine, but then I noticed that the hard drive light stopped blinking while widows was loading up. It happened exactly when windows xp logo is on the screen and the little bar is going across the screen.

While booting up, the hard drive light was blinking, and I could hear the harddrive spinning, but then when it gets to the part of the windows xp screen with the blue bar goes across, it just hangs and the hard drive light stops blinking, but I still hear the hard drive spinning.

Now, this is where I'm completely confused. I tried to reboot in safe mode, and to my surprise, it booted of fine into "safe mode".

Im really confused. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

It is hard to tell what might be going on, but if you can get in to safe mode, try to restore your computer to an earlier date before the error. That might be the first thing to try before you get in too deep with the troubleshooting scene. If that doesn't give you results, then we can explore other areas.
