Hi guys,

I have an external Maxtor OneTouch 4 1 TB hard drive and as I understand since I installed it to Windows, it won't be able to work on Macs. That's fine, but I'm thinking of reformatting my laptop and downgrading from Vista to XP. I plan to store my backup files in the Maxtor HD and I'm wondering if changing the Windows OS to XP will cause the hard drive to be un-readable; kind of similar to when trying to use it on a Mac.

So long as the drive remains fat32 then XP or MAC will recognize the disk, may not recognize the file structure completely but the disk should be useable in both OS's. That being said Windows will not format a drive that big to fat32, so it would require a 3rd party formatter utility such as https://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/
