Howdy folks! I FINALLY decided to join a tech forum! I build my own computers And I know a decent amount but I AM getting a tad rusty.
In any case here is a Read Test that I really want to get your opinions on.
Is it dying? :ermm:
To test your drive, download Seatools in my Signature and burn the image with IMGBurn and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and the Advanced tests. If it passes, it's not dying.
The chart looks typical for a conventional (non SSD) drive.
To improve performance and storage capacity most drives have more sectors per track on the outer tracks where they are longer. Since a rotation of the platter covers more sectors when on the outer tracks the transfer rate is greater here. This is what the chart is showing. But since there are other factors governing overall disk performance than transfer rate this has little practical significance.
Of course this does not mean the drive is healthy, only that the graph does not show a problem.
If you do not have a backup of important files, now would be a good time to do this. Hard drives fail, often without any warning or apparent cause, and there are other causes of data loss as well. You need to be prepared when (not if) something happens.
