Imminent Failure on Toshiba HDD

I have a fairly new HP Pavilion DM4 with a Toshiba 640 HD. It has an Imminent Failure on start up and is not recognized by BIOS. When I run SMART, it says to backup data immendiately. I then connected it to my other laptop via SATA cable and it doesn't register there either. How do I back up the data if I can't read disk? Also, how can I determine if the circuit board needs replacing?

It sounds like it has already failed. Does the drive register in the Bios? If so, you can use backup software to recover your data. But if it doesn't get a drive letter or even get recognized in the Bios then it has failed.

If it is still recognized in the Bios try downloading this trial version of GetDataBack NTFS and let it scan your drive (It does not need to be recognized by Windows) and it will tell you what if anything it can recover and you decide if it is worth purchasing the software. You will need a drive of the same size to recover to.
