Ide drive with no jumper plug

i have a computer with no hard drive.
i have an old 160gb ide drive that was my storage drive in another computer.
i want to use is as my primary drive in this new computer
however it has no jumper plug in the back.
can i still use it as my main drive in my computer.
and if i can there is no os on it so how will i format it can you get a bootable cd to do that for me?
any help would be appriciated

A Western Digital (WD) Hard Drive with no jumper pin is a drive that is set as Slave. If you have no other IDE drives set as Master or CS on the same chain, then you can theoretically make that your primary drive (because there is no other drive on the same IDE cable) It would still show up as being a Slave. You would check this by booting into Setup (Bios) with the drive attached and making sure it is recognized. Then boot off of a Windows CD, it will show you the partitions and you can choose to Format the partition and install Windows on it.
