HDD making chattering(clicking) sound

my hard disk is making a chattering/ clicking noise in every few seconds. can i eliminate this sound? is this a symbol of HDD failure?

What make and model is the drive. The sound is not a good indicator of a healthy hard drive. Do you have a good backup ? If no get your data backed up now ! Download hddscan from hddscan.com and click the smart button post the results in an image file back here if any indicators are yellow or red its a sign the drive is failing.

Well hard drives are supposed to make sounds as there is something spinning inside but if the sound has grown louder which is not evident from before, I suggest that you back up your files immediately. I would not like to say this but that is a good indication that it is failing.

And in as much as we want hardware to last, it just is not the case here so better get the important files before time runs out. Harsh truth.
