I have an external hard drive form my old computer that had an operating system on it (Windows XP to be precise) and it has data. I'm trying to retrieve the data on that drive through a USB 2.0 external hard drive case.
Windows 7 is telling me it needs to be formatted, which is nonsense. What's going on?
I tried another computer just now... it's telling me the same thing. I don't understand how this happened.... I never erased the drive.
I also tried another drive to get data from it, that one worked. Another hard drive wouldn't even show up at all... is there a program perhaps where I can retrieve data from the first drive that somehow isn't formatted? And I don't why the second one is no good now.
Yeah my Windows 7 is always on "never notify", which I believe means it's deactivated.
It's actually telling me, "Volume does not contain a recognized file system"
Perhaps it's some other Windows 7 security feature?
