I bought a fujitsu mht2080ah, 80 gig hd, with an external usb2/firewire case. The hd came with a slave/mater pin uninstalled. I have tryed to connect it with the pin in different configs., and loaded the drivers yet my computer is not reading it. I have a dell inspiron 8200 notebook with xp pent 4 1.8 gig, 1 gig ram. I also bought a pc slot card reader to upgrade my pc to a usb 2 connection. If anyone can tell me on how to install this drive to back up my work it would be much appreciated.. thanks

It would help if you told us what you see in Disk Management when you plug the drive in. Did you partition and format it?

Within disk managment the drive does not read. It said it was a plug and play drive, but when pluged in it doesnt get recognized. I have not partitioned or formatted it. I do not know how to.

First off, when you plug in the drive, does it get displayed in Device Manager? If so, are there any errors associated with it? Look under Disk Drives and USB Controllers, it should appear in at least one of those places.

If it doesn't appear anywhere, you need to figure out what the problem with the drive, cable, or USB port is. The drive may also need a aux power supply for a laptop, typically the USB ports on a laptop don't have the DC power drive a desktop has, and my 2.5" drives don't always work without external power on laptops.

BTW, the drive should be configured as a Master in the external case.
