Hi,

When I was running the defag my computer went to a black screen. I left it for several hours but eventually turned it off.

When I tried to boot it I got a black screen with
Diskette Drive 0 seek failure
F1 to Continue,
F2 to enter setup

I tried to run the repair options on the Reinstallation DVD but non of these options repaired it. I then re-installed windows and it did a new installation. I can access all my old data through the Windows.old folder.

When I now try to boot the computer after the reinstallation of windows I still the same error
Diskette Drive 0 seek failure
F1 to Continue,
F2 to enter setup
If I press F1 I get NO BOOT DEVICE DETECTED, INSERT SYSTEM DISK …
When I insert the DVD it boot into the newly installed copy of window and works fine.

I have pressed F12 during the boot and have gone into the Boot Menu and have tried all the option but nothing has resolves the problem.

My Computer is a Dell Dimension E521
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ 2.4GHz
Memory: 2064 MB
OS: Windows Vista

Is my Hard drive knackered?
Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Hugh

Hi Hugh07,

It is possible that the hard-drive is faulty. I recommend going to the manufacturer's website of the hard-drive and downloading the HDD Diagnostics Utility. Put the program onto a CD and boot your computer to the CD. Then scan the HDD for any errors by performing a short and long test.

Hope everything works out well for you.
