I would like to know if it is possible for me to installed a second hard drive that I could use as a storage for documents that are more then 400 megabys? my first hdd is 250gb and the OS is XP pro with a ram of 1gb. and I am using it for my bussiness as a paralegal and I cannot delete any of the documents that I already have on this system and I am running out of space because every day I add additional document with more then 400 megabytes. there is also programs that I use for digital media like recording, camera, videos mp3, etc,. If I could installed a second hdd do I also need to installed a second OS on it, if not would I be able access the drive without doing any else, like rebooting I am thinking of looking for a hdd like in the range of 400gb if there is one

Yes, you can just add a storage hard disk without an OS. I would take a look at something like this:

Its USB. Just plug it in and put your data on it.
