hey guys..today i had a problem with a customers..pc was hacked..nothing shows..task manager disabled. scanned with boot kaspersky disk..caught only two autoruns but didnt do the trick..so i had to format it

before formatting..i had to back up some of his files. i have hirens v10.1, it does have recovery tools, but damn i dont know how to use them all and they do not seem to be a recovery tool, i think they are just whole hard drive copy softwares. so i formatted it.

i wanted to know what do you guys use to back up specific files to usb and cd/dvd..? and it has to be bootable.

I always pull the disk and slave it to one of the recovery systems. We usually keep one pretty well stripped down just for potential infected machines, and isolated from teh network. It's possible the malware is loading at boot and hiding itself so by scanning the drive when the OS isn't loaded from it, you may be able to find the infection and eliminate it before copying. Hirens is not the kind of thing to use on a customer's machine. A lot of the software on Hiren's is pirated. Once you have the drive slaved, you can use just about anything to burn the CDs, or unstoppable copier from www.roadkil.net to do a simple file copy.
