I want to add an additional hd. I am running xp using an amd 333 processor. I presently have a Quantum 8 gig drive and I would like to add at least 80 gigs. Do I need to get an ultra ata pci card? All help will be greatly appreciated.

If your BIOS date is 1999 or earlier, you'll probably need either a BIOS upgrade or a PCI <> IDE expansion card. I do NOT recommend the drive overlay software that comes with many hard disks. Somewhere down the road, you'll try to recover data and the drive overlay will bite you in the butt!

Thanks, johnwill. I have read some of your other advice and I will stay away from the overlay. I do have 2 pci expansion slots so I think the new card is the way to go. Do you reccomend keeping the o/s on my old drive or moving it to the new one?

If you get an ultra ata pci card I don't think a BIOS update is needed
