If I covered the entire chip and it's maybe 2 sheets of paper thick, is that too thick? Would it mean my CPU running at 50C when on for several hours, playing a game (second life) and downloading a torrent? When idle it ran at 41-44 degrees celcius. I was told it was hot so I tried reapplying the thermal paste, but I don't think I did it much better this time through..

By the way, is it all right to spread the paste throughout with a gloved finger/business card?

Or should I just put a small blob in the middle and press it down with the cpu cooler?

Any tips?

Yes, that is too much ant too much can be as bad or worse than not enough. Follow these instructions:

Applying Artic Silver Thermal Paste

BTW, torrent downloads can be harmful to your rig, we don't advise you doing that if you want your computer to run smoothly.
