Hi all, I have a Compaq Microsoft Windows XP Version 2002 Service Pk 3. I checked and it said I have 11.3 GB available.
I have downloaded every single Browser, IE keeps saying low on memory, no memory at line 1, 10, 22 etc. freezes up on me & boots me off line. The rest of them seem to all say: application Failed to initialize perperly (0xc0000017) which I know also pertains to memory & they boot me off line. I keep my cookies cleaned out, I Defrag when I need to, clear the cache. I did everything I could think of, oh and there is no virus checked that to. I can't play any games at all on any of them, platform games especially. I'm at the end of my rope with what to do except buy more memory, someone told me I need at least 2 more GB. If you feel I need that where do I buy it the cheapest, what kind, & how to put in in my Tower. I now have Safari, but I did like Opera. TY so much . JoJo

PC Specs?
Pre- Built Brand & Model Number
Custom Built- Brand & Model of Mobo-CPU-RAM-Graphics-PSU.

If you are down to 11.3 GB of Hdd space, that could be a problem.

If the PC is an OEM (i.e. Dell-HP-etc.) post the Brand Name & Model Number.
If it's a custom build, Look at the specs as shown in Speccy and and post the Brand & Model of Mobo-CPU-RAM-Graphics-PSU. You can find the PSU info on the label affixed to the PSU.

Hi Tyree, this is what SPEECY showed. I have no idea what the model # is, I know this is a lot of stuff but maybe you can make heads or tails out of it. I got rid of Safari, I am using IE right now and it is running a little better, but I just freed up not having Safari.

Whichever model of HP/Compaq it is (Presario 4/5000 series?), it looks like it's running Moon Secure Antivirus | Free Security & Utilities software downloads at SourceForge.net alongside MSE and, I think, the built-in Windows firewall; that could be part of the problem?

Hi Satrow, I deleted M Firewall, & I took MSE off last week don't know why it still shows as Virus control. I thought I just had Moon now. But I will say it runs much better without that firewall, it still has IE not responding, and little of the low on Memory pop up, I did't seem to have much problems with that when I had Opera Browser, just on IE. So I guess I need to get some more memory, any idea where to buy it cheaply :-) TY so much for all your help. ♥

Memory for an older PC probably isn't cheap now. Try the Crucial Memory Advisor: RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, SSD at Crucial.com to work out what memory is compatible and check prices. You really need 1-2GB, depending on the price of memory, you may be better saving for a more recent computer.

Hi everyone, I never did get any more memory I just cant afford it right now. I have a friend here that is kind of a Geek Squad with some friends, he told me to get rid of Opera, down load Mozilla Firefox, then Adaware, and Spybot Search & Destroy, that it will get rid of all the malware and keep my computer clean. Is that a good idea for a slow running machine with little memory? Will they keep the malware out & help with it being slow? Are all of these things memory hogs? I have Ccleaner I hope was doing all those things. If I do all that, should I still keep Ccleaner? TY All so much for being there for us when we need your help, TY for all the time you put into doing this for nothing. JoJo
