hi guy"s, can anybody help with a blue screen error code 0x000000ed my girlfriend"s dell latitude laptop today when she tried to boot up, we have no idea why this has happened so if anybody can help it will be greatly appreciated. many thanks

and welcome to the Forum

Did she install or uninstall any hardware or software prior to this error? Has she tried starting in Last Known Good Configuration? ( Tap F8 repeatedly from the time you press the power button )

Has she run the Dell Diagnostic CD?

Please ask your girlfriend what was the last thing she was doing on the computer before the problem occurred.

When does the error message come in? Once you turn on the laptop?

My System


Run Diags on the HDD as instructed earlier.

Do you have the Windows CD that came with the laptop.

If so then boot to the cd and run chkdsk /r

This is an error usually associated with UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

thanx for repling. i was on the internet. then when i turned my laptop on in the morning blue screen came up. my laptop loads up normally but when its meant to load on to my normal page the blue screen comes up instead.
any help you can give me on this subject would be very much appreciated. thank you for your time

thank you for repling.
that is the blue screen error i have been getting.
i have tried the diags on the hdd, but everything was alright.
i am going to try booting with the cd etc this afternoon,
but any other help you can give me on this matter would be very much appreciated.

thank you for repling.
i downloaded morilla foxfire but didnt have it activated.
i have pressed the f8 like you said and tried everything i could do, but the blue screen keeps coming up.
i havent got the dell diagnostics cd... but i have tried the diagnostics on the hdd and that all came back alright.
thank you for you help and time in this matter.
any more help you can give would be very much appreciated.

just to let you guys know this is the imformation on the blue screen:
this is at the top of blue screen;
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
at the bottom of the blue screen, is the technical information:
***stop: 0X000000ED (0X8172D030, 0XC0000032, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)

hi thanks for all your help guy"s, just to let you know we ran the xp pro back thru and it sorted the problem out instantly, just a re format was all, once again many thanks
