i have 2 p4 intel havre motherboards.
1 i recently setup as a server using Server2003. thing is i came up to my room and found that when i pressed the power switch it didnt work.
when i opened the case i saw that when switching the psu, the green light on the m/b was on but the cpu fan was not spinning nor was the pc powering up (on the monitor)...the lights on the ethernet port are working still...
...this has happened to the other motherboard too. i have tried 2 different psu's also, but with no luck....
how do i troubleshoot this??
is it the motherboard?....or PSU??
..what is a LIKELY cause....could the temperature in my room be too cold for it...(btw i left the server side panel open)....
Is the motherboard in warrenty? Other than that, I don't think there is anything you can do, exept replace it.
Everytime you have touched the board, you have used a anti-static wrist band havn't you?
there is a big difference in power requirements for a p3 and a p4
it sounds like the supply has deteriorated to a point it will no longer run the p4,which should set the bells ringing for you http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=107466
post the specs of the computer and the psu
Well, If there is any electrolyte (brown crusty stuff) coming from a capacitor, it will light up but would be very unstable. I expect your PSU cant support a P4. Does it have a 20 Pin connector AND a 12v (4 pin) connector for the CPU?
Have you by any chance scraped off any capacitors or small chips accidently with a screwdriver?
