OS: Windows XP Prof.



Trying to fix a HP desktop for a friend, its running XP prof. and when you turn it on, it immediately shuts down. You need to do this 6 or 7 times before it finally boots up. Any suggestion, other than buying a new PC.

Does it Post first? Do you get to the Windows screen?

If you get the Windows welcome screen, try to repair the boot sector using Windows XP CD.

what are you running
video card
cpu
m/board
ram
power supply
brand
model
wattage
check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them

No it does not post, it shuts down immediately! I also suspect a failing PSU, but I have never seen one react this way, usually they just shut down.
