Hello,
Firstly, this is my first post, and its my pleasure to join such a wonderful community :)
Secondly; I'm having a problem with a PC, when I start it it first beeps the normal beep, then beeps two other short beeps ( very close in interval that it seems as the second beep is an echo to the first ! ), after that I hear a "double" beep for each keystroke, and the computer wont take any input from the keyboard, I cant enter the BIOS, cant boot into the CD, cant do anything, especially that the windows needs a repair !
any ideas ? I think the Motherboard is defective, or maybe just the PS2 connector..

Info :
P4 CPU
VIA Motherboard
512 MB DDR 400 RAM ( 2 x 256 )
keyboard is 100% working

Thanks

Is that a branded system like HP, Gateway, Dell Etc?
Via is a chip set maker not a motherboard manufacturer, the Beep codes are dependent on the brand of Bios (AMI, Phoenix, Award Etc) so we'll need either the motherboard brand or Bios brand to figure out the code.

Most 1 long and 2 short indicate a video system failure, but not all.

Thanks wrench97 for the reply,
this is an assembled PC ( not a brand ), its not mine so im not exactly sure about the motherboard manufacturer, I have the Drivers CD and it says VIA ! unless of course its some "nameless" manufacturer, anyway; I just checked the BIOS, its Phonex, and the video card is working properly ( i changed it with another and got the same keystrokes beeps )

its the first time I encounter such a case, when you press on any keyboard button you get a beep, then when you release it you get another ! thats what i meant by "double" beeps..

If the bios hangs prepost the keyboard beeps are normal, it's the beeps before you press any keys that count.
Phonex is a series of 3 numbers > https://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/phoenixbeep.htm

Does the PC post at all, can you see the bios post screen?

Ok, I listened really carefully but I still cannot find any of the patterns from the website you provided, so I decided to upload a sound file that contains the sounds and beeps from the moment the PC starts until it stops when it realizes that the windows needs a repair.
please find the amr sound file ( 70 KB ) in the attachments..

The BIOS data first appears on the screen at second 8, followed by a very short beep at second 9, then at second 15 another short beep is heard when the BIOS disappears from the screen, the screen then is clear until the windows message appears at second 38, i try to press ctrl+alt+del at second 40 ( you can hear random beeps, if I can call them "beeps" ! ) then del alone after that.

Thanks for your concern.

Try disconnecting the hard drive data and power cables, see if you can enter the bios.

Nothing changed, I disconnected the power and the IDE cable both from the MB and the HDD ( just to make sure ! :) still the same sounds and no input from the keyboard..

BTW, I realized that it took 4 times for the computer to start up properly, I thought previously that this is because of me removing and putting back the RAMs and the VGA while there is some dust on the MB, but now its very clear that there is something else wrong here..

If you have any USB devices plugged into the USB ports front or rear unplug them and try.(except the keyboard)

Do you have access to a digital voltmeter? > Test Your Power Supply

Thanks a lot wrench97 for your help, The power supply is working properly after testing..
Anyway; I Took the machine to a Computer parts shop to have them take a look at it, surprisingly they told me that it is working with no problems ! they just cleaned the dust and that's it ! after I explained what happenes with me they advised me to change the keyboard, when I took it back it still had the same problem, so i decided finally to change the keyboard ( which is working just fine on my PC ) with another one ( they both are PS2 ) and Magic ! it works !
I really dont have any explanation for this, the keyboard I used works fine ! Im sending this post with it !! why ? I dont know..

It may be a broken wire in the cord or a control board inside the key board starting to fail.
