So, just want to find out something.
In a 20-25 degrees celsius room, fairly dry, the cores of my Laptop i7 CPU cores run at about 50-55 degrees on idle, and 70-75 when running a high-end application such as Battlefield 3.
Is this normal and acceptable heat readings?

I clean the vents regularly but haven't opened it yet to reapply paste or so, don't want to break warranty.

OK temps for a notebook PC. You may want to consider an accessory cooler for gaming.

I have one. If I don't use a cooling stand the games lose performance and lags like crazy.
Thanks for the info.

Just one of the hindrances of trying to game on a laptop.

I'm aware of it yeah. I'm still working on a high-end desktop pc, but alas, money is hard to find.

By the way, I see in some games it raises to 80 degrees (one of the cores).

80 degrees is very close to a I7's thermal trip (T-state) you should try possibly buying a laptop cooling mat to see if you can get it any cooler. You could also try applying new thermal paste onto your GPU,CPU to see if that cools things down abit.

One of the major reasons i don't game on a laptop is they cant take the heat due to all the power.

G'day! Quite often, my computer will start running badly in games. I've spent ages trying to figure out what was doing it, and I have come to the conclusion that is is the CPU Core voltage. The core voltage is dropping from around 1.3V to 0.9V. When this happens the core speed also drops...
