ok i just got an older e machines off someone for free because the MB is bad. i'm trying to take the CPU out though because i beleive that it's still good. for some strange reason though i can't get the damn heat sink fan off! it's a metal type cube held on by a clip that runs rigth across the middle. it's clamped down by three clips on each side. i dont' want to break it but like there doesn't seem to be any other way to get this thing off! any ideas anyone?

My System

You would not know the CPU socket or at least the model # for that Emachine would you?

If I knew that I could probably help you more.

Btw, taking off a heatsink off of an old HP was a pain - there seemed like no possible way to get it without breaking the darn thing... Then I notized that it had a simple little latch. My solution - push down on the metal brace, then try to "unlatch the latch". I do not know what it looks like - so I can't say much more, sry.

Sounds like an athlon xp chip.
The clip that goes accross the middle should have a little
tab sticking out of the side of it.
You stick a small screwdriver in it,push down toward the motherboard,
then pry it away from the cpu.
It should release.
