I have an Asus A7A266 motherboard with BIOS v 1011 and a Maxtor Ultra DMA 6 6Y0P160 hard drive which will only work in Windows XP in PIO mode (despite the fact that the BIOS recognises it as being an ULtra DMA 6- capable drive).

I have bought a Koutech Ultra ATA/100 RAID PCI card (KW-571H) and installed it with the Maxtor drive connected to it.

I have selected the Boot-up opton as "SCSI".

The first time I booted up, the RAID board BIOS is entered and I selected the Maxtor drive as "Boot". On exit, the Windows XP loaded and when I ran a Hard Disk speed test it was Ultra DMA 5. BIngo ! - or so I thought. When I re-booted, the system went past the RAID BIOS then hung. I plugged the 80-wire cable back into the motherboard and re-booted fine, albeit at PIO speeds. I then reconnected the cable to the SCSI RAID controller card and it re-detected it and worked great at Ultra DMA 5 speed (that's what the card supports). When I re-booted, same again - it hung.

Any ideas anyone ?

The SCSI card is sharing IRQ 11 with the graphics card but I dn't know if that is the cause (plus I don't know how to reserve an IRQ for the card).
