Question

Alright folks I'm set to build myself a new machine in about two weeks time any comments on the specs would be great. I think I have it all covered.

This system should hopefully do me 2 years before a major upgrade is needed. Another gig of RAM is planned for when I have some free cash.

And before anyone freaks at the prices their all in Australian dollars so the total buy in US is roughly $1240.

Antec P160 Case
https://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=38&&bid=4&sid=6819 $175
Considering a cheaper case to save a couple of dollars. Any suggestions or should I just suck it up and go with the P160.

Antec Tru Power 2 550W
https://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=38&&bid=4&sid=11975 $168

AMD64 3700+ Sandiego Core
https://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=14&&bid=4&sid=13497 $359

1Gig Corsair Twinx C2 3200 RAM
https://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=28&&bid=4&sid=7859 $199

Western Digital 250Gig SATA II HD
https://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=15&&bid=4&sid=12959 $159

Asus A8N-E Motherboard N-Force4 Ultra.
https://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=21&&bid=4&sid=13680 $175
Not looking at throwing in a second graphics card at any point.

XFX 6800GS XXX Edition Overclocked to 485MHZ/1.1MHZ
https://www.umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=82&&bid=4&sid=16135 $385
Feedback on the card would be great. What kind of improvement am I going to see over the stock 6800GS. Stock GS is $320.
Should I just go stock and run some overclock on it myself?
But then I most likel will not hit the same speeds that XFX are out of the card will I?

And finally an LG Dual Layer Burner $60

Grand total for new system $1680

Thanks for any input folks.

Thanks Whosdat.

I run into one small problem with Newegg though .

For some reason they don't like shipping to Australia.

Hi,

My personal opinion on your question about the case is that I would stay with the one you have listed. It is a great case and if you skimp now, you may have to just redo that area later.

If you want to save a whole bunch of bucks, I would suggest that you might take a look at NewEgg.com and ZipZoomFly.com for the best prices and both are excellent at service. You can save several bucks ($235 for a retail San Diego CPU on NewEgg) on the San Diego at this point and I didn't look at the rest, but from a first glance, those prices are very, very, very high for the items you have listed.

Looks like a very nice rig.

Addendum: I just saw your second post after I had written the reply. Therefore, take a look at ZipZoomFly and see if they ship to your place. There are many other companies that I think do ship to Australia and they are much cheaper than what you have quoted.

Thanks for the opinion on the Case that's pretty much what I was thinking but some confirmation is good.

But damn you guys have stuff cheap compared to us. Running my same shopping list off newegg and converting to Aussie $$ It's only around AU$1200 not the AU$1600 it is over here. The only problem is when you take the cost of shipping to Australia into account the price heads back up again.

Checked out ZipZoomFly.com but only US Shipping.
If anyone knows of a company that has decent shipping rates to AUS let me know and I might have to check it out.
