Hi all,
I am looking at getting an Intel M.2 SSD 1tb from www.scan.co.uk (ln 92553) it has a whooping 1800mbs read write.

Now then, my mainboard hasnt got a native M.2 Slot so looking at a PCIe converter and run it off that.

My question is, can I boot windows from it, it being the PCI express slot?

Hello,

With your board you would have to modify your BIOS to accept NVMe - M.2 support as shown here, and you would need to make sure you use your 16x or 8x rated 3.0 PCIe with the adaptor (usually the second main PCIe slot on premium boards like yours) assuming you have a stand alone primary GPU installed, and there is no guarantee that it will boot properly even if you mod your bios with the M.2-MVMe string, and very well could render your board useless. Even with Z87 boards it's a gamble. My advice is don't take that gamble. There is so little real-world difference between a standard SSD to a M.2-NVMe SSD. Boot times are a 1/4 a second or so difference at best. Shut down is the same. Surfing and game load times on the games that benefit from an SSD usually open world games are similar. The big difference is mostly with file transfers and the like. In short I wouldn't do it.

That sounds like an excellent plan. I use a Traditional 500GB SATA Samsung 860 Evo in my secondary system and it's plenty fast. They can also be had for very nice pricing currently!

yeah I want the 1TB one, its faster than my current 840evo and has a whopping 1gb cache memory which should make it stupidly fast....
