Hi,

I have just put together a system as outlined below:

Antec SLK-1650B Case
Abit AL8-V Mobo
Corsair 1Gb ValueSelect Memory VS1GB533D2
Sapphire ATI X600 Gfx Card
Pentium 4 650 CPU
etc...

Upon Startup I get 1 long beep, 1 Short beep, then it kindof reboots, nothing on screen ever. The only post code i get is 83 on the lcd.

I read that the beep codes have something to do with memory, I tried installing a Kingston KTH-XW4200/512 400Mhz DDR2 module i had lying around (still new), and i got the same result.

Should this motherboard be RA'd? Or is there something I am doing wrong here? Single memory sticks should work fine right?

I found the problem

Needed to clear the CMOS settings.

Abit states this is recommended on new installs (turned out to be critical here)

My System

Thank you for posting your fix, btw I try and get the importance of clearing the cmos and loading the bios defaults across all the time

It should be done with any new board or after a bios flash or even when unexplained things happen before the os loads.
