Hi everyone,

Long story short: my girlfriend's laptop had a bad hard drive. Popped a new one in and did a fresh format.

Upon doing this, I can get EVERYTHING but the wireless drivers working.

Model of laptop: HP Pavilion DV6-6144ca Entertainment Notebook PC

I've tried installing all of the drivers from the following page:

Software & driver downloads HP Pavilion dv6-6144ca Entertainment Notebook PC | HP® Support

And none of them work. None of them recognize the wireless adapter.

The adapter WAS previously working just fine.

I've also tried popping the back off, and removing the card, firing up Windows, shutting down, re-inserting it, with hopes it would recognize it, but it doesn't work. Hard wired, works flawlessly. Just cannot get any wireless working at all.

The wireless network icon isn't showing up at all and the device manager recognizes the Network Adapter, but has "!'s" next to "Network Controller" and "Unknown Device".

Any advice would be appreciated. I've tried multiple drivers but none seem to work. The recovery disc is long lost and irretrievable as well. If anyone has an online option I'd really appreciate that.

Thanks,

R

How do I get into Windows Device Manager?

Hi in device manager
-Right click on that device and go to “Properties”

-In the properties menu, click on the “Details” tab.

-In the details tab, click the dropdown and select “Device Id’s”.
and post the pci.ven/dev

I believe its the Broadcom adapter but are you certain the adapter is actually turned on? Have you looked for a switch on the side or front. I have seen some HP's where the switch is actually the signal button itself which pushes in but that sounds like the issue to me.

I actually figured it out.

Instead of manually installing the device drivers, I chose to automatically scan while hardwired for updates. Believe it or not, it found the proper ones.

Despite much frustration, chalk one up for Microsoft being helpful! :D

Thanks everyone. This site continues to be one of the most amazing forums I've ever used. Thanks again for the help, and happy holidays to those of you that celebrate it!

Great why not mark this solved in the first post under "Thread Tools" in the first post.
