Hi all,

I am running a LAN network for a small business based on Fiber Optic.
I have 13 statics IP and 2 Cameras / 1 Switch / Backup server / Domain server / File share server /5 PC's and Fiber internet.

One of PC's needs to be connected via Fiber cable to the switch which is around 100 Meters away (328.084 ft). (I have Fiber network card)

I read a book about Fiber cables and it seems there are many types of Fiber cables + different connectors.

I need to know what type of Fiber cable is the best for my LAN (100 meters indoor) Also what kind of connector do I need? Is LC better?

Thank you'll !!

100 meters doesn't need fiber. You can do wired for that distance.

That aside, the switch [and its gbics] and then lan card you buy will determine the interfaces. It is suggested you do multimode vs singlemode fiber given the short distance.

What switch do you have? Know that you can't use a fiber uplink port on a switch for attaching servers or pcs.

Thanks for your reply mate.

I am really interested to setup this network on Fibre optic,
As you said 100 Meter does not require Fibre but I want to be a copper tradition breaker! Also Fibre is more secure and usable for the future.

So I will use Multi-mode :-)

For network card I will use "Allied Telesis Gigabit Fibre Network Adapter, 1 x 1000Base-SX LC, PCIe (x1)" which supports 1000Base-SX multi-mode fibre, LC connector.

For switch I am going to use either : Cisco SG300-10SFP 10-port Gigabit Managed SFP Switch or HPE OfficeConnect 1920 Switch Series ??

I did not know that UPLINk port will not support connections to the server or PC's . Thanks for letting me know.

Any Idea on Fibre switch? Managed?

Thanks.
