So we are paying too much for cable. I have asked around about what streaming service to use in place of it but there are too many options. Our old Blu-Ray player has Amazon and Hulu apps on it. They have free trials on those. I am wondering if I should just try that route. But I am wondering how it works from a technical standpoint. We don't have a smart tv, by the way.

Would I be basically streaming my tv service through my wireless router? I am concerned about a) wifi quality and b) not getting access to the few things we do watch on cable.

I hope someone here can help me reach a decision.

Depending on what type of connections your TV has, you streaming choices. Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV.

We have a Roku box in the bedroom, and stream TV. We have a Roku TV in the grand daughters room, both work great. both are wireless, my house is a single level ranch.

The BluRay player will give excellent picture. It will connect directly to your internet.
I use two Panasonic BluRay players in two rooms for Hulu and Netflix.

Question will be if that device can connect to services other than those two.

Yes. Quality will depend on the speed and type of internet connection. Most everything on cable can be found somewhere ion teh web, but it will be somewhat different. Your local TV stations may or may not be available. There will be no 'surfing' as you may be used to. Everything will have to be selected from a menu or schedule. Then it will have to connect and load before it begins to play. Change programs? Repeat the above. There will not be fast forward and reverse like you may be used to either. Every version I ever tried was spotty and would sometimes cause the stream to restart.

I just ended up turning my TV off completely.

[SOLVED] HDMI-HDCP Cable Problem
Hello! Just today I bought a 10 meter HDMI cable. When I connect my TV with my Cable TV Decoder using the said HDMI cable, the decoder said that the TV does not support HDCP. Since I once connected the TV to my PS3, I think the TV is HDCP-compliant. To further test the cable, I plugged it to...
