i have a ASUS DSL-N55U modem router when i connect ot i get the following message
unable to detect wired connection please check connection between computer and router.
i have checked and all cables are connected properly.
can anyone help.

Try a different Ethernet cable, power cycle your router.

Power cycle the router? From the command prompt type ipconfig /all then post the output.
