I currently use a PC with win7 with virgin superhub modem. This works fine. Which is also used wireless for laptops. However I am trying to connect an old PC which has Winxp home, the PC works ok.
The problem is mainly I dont know how, I have a cable from the modem to the PC but it cant find an internet connection (it previously worked different owner)
I have tried various things but to be honest the terminology is beating me.
Wireless would be great but happy just to connect with a cable to check it works ok.
I used speccy to get PC info and it states:
Adaptors list. Enabled.
Local area connection 2, DHCP enabled no.
Wireless network connection, DHCP enabled no.

Any help appreciated, but step by step simple.
Thanks

Please post a screenshot of Device Manager with the Network Adaptor group expanded.

How do I get into Windows Device Manager?

+1 Looks like your missing your LAN drivers. What model computer or motherboard(if home built) do you have? You will have to download the drivers with another PC and transfer them to the XP computer with a flash/thumb drive.

Its a Dell, only external label is Optiplex GX280 although it is not the tower type but flat.
I will try download the LAN drivers this evening, and report back.

Thanks

You will probably need these drivers then. If the drivers are already there, then you have a more serious problem with the Operating System.
