I am redoing my house and am trying to update the technology. I was going to run Ethernet cables to each room. What would be the best cable to use? Fastest? Or is there some other cable that would work better?

CAT5e or CAT6. Personally I would use CAT5e. Keep all runs under 250-300ft.

If it were my house I would wire with cat6a or even 7 but use cat5e for patch and connectors.

In 10 years cat5e will be obsolete. You are future proofing going to a higher rated cable.

I'm doing this as well and I'm sticking to good ol' Cat5e. Cat6 isn't worth the expense.
