Internet Dropouts. This happens randomly (could be hours or days between events). How can I diagnose exactly WHAT is the CAUSE?

This began after a lightning strike; the ISP replaced my modem and I bought a new router (cheapest Netgear R6020 from Wal-Mart.) I know it's the router because during an episode, the wi-fi is out, and plugging the PC directly to the modem restores its connection.

I had a similar problem a few months back where the connection between the router and the modem was offset.

In my case the wifi connection was perfectly fine, but the wired connection suffered greatly. I bought a new modem and router to try and solve the issue but it came right back up.

But in my case I had to turn off the wifi signal on my router to get it to reset.

The dns probe not finishing means the dns settings are not properly configured.

If you do a hardware manufacturer reset it might fix it, but in my case it did not. It has something to do with the isp itself. Although again in my case they could not determine what the hell was wrong with my connection. About two days later my internet connection went back to normal finally.

Only thing you can try is pinging the dns probes themselves to see if there is packet loss. You may want to try a different primary and secondary dns probe. Just don't waste money on a modem or router with VPN software integration.

I can only think it has everything to do with the isp going through some troubles.
