I have just bought a new Asus Notebook running Windows 8. I have not yet switched it on (and have never used Windows 8 (64-bit) - I currently use Windows 7).

As I will be using when travelling, I want to encrypt it, but I'm not sure how best to do this.

Ideally, I would like to encrypt at "Libraries" folder level, so that it also covers "My Documents", "My Music", "My Pictures" and "My Videos". Maybe it's possible to simply encrypt the entire laptop - I don't know!!

What's the most user friendly free encryption software available?

I'm afraid I only have the basic Windows 8, so that rules out Bitlocker.

I also cannot find a TrueCrypt for 8.1

I'm still looking!

Thanks joeten.

I've come across this article (I use my windows account to log in)

Windows 8.1 Will Start Encrypting Hard Drives By Default: Everything You Need to Know

Does this mean I'm already encrypted, and is there any way I can check this, to be certain?

The laptop came with Windows 8 and with a free upgrade to 8.1, which I applied.

Thanks joeten.

By "key" do you mean my password to my Microsoft Account.

If not, where can I find the key?
