I see no sign of infection in your logs. What symptoms are you experiencing?

------------------------------------------------------

Please uninstall the following via Start->(or My Computer)->Control Panel->Add or Remove Programs if it still exists:

My Way Search Assistant<<Please read this

------------------------------------------------------

Advanced Registry Optimizer

We do not recommend the use of registry cleaners. Our colleague miekiemoes has an excellent writeup here

We suggest uninstalling them via Add or Remove Programs in your Control Panel.

------------------------------------------------------

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 and Save it to your Desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says JDK 6 Update 18 (JDK or JRE)
  • Click the Download JRE button to the right.
  • Select the Windows platform from the dropdown menu.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: I agree to the Java SE Runtime Environment 6 with JavaFX License Agreement
  • Click Continue The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and Save the file to your Desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start(or My Computer) > Control Panel and double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Click (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE, J2SE, Java(TM) SE or Java(TM) 6) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u18-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
  • After the install is complete, go back to your Control Panel(using Classic View) and click the Java icon. (looks like a coffee cup)
    • On the General tab, under Temporary Internet Files, click the Settings button.
    • Next, click on the Delete Files button.
    • There are two options in the window to clear the cache - Leave BOTH Checked
      • Applications and Applets
      • Trace and Log Files
    • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window.
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE
    • Click OK to leave the Temporary Files Window.
    • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
    • Delete jre-6u18-windows-i586.exe from your desktop.
------------------------------------------------------

Please run this online scan to help look for remnants. Ensure your external and/or USB drives are inserted during the scan.

Establish an internet connection & perform an online scan at Kaspersky Online Scanner

Click Accept, when prompted to download and install the program files and database of malware definitions.
  • Click Run at any Security prompt.
  • The program will then begin downloading and installing and will also update the database.
  • Please be patient as this can take several minutes.
  • Once the update is complete, click on My Computer under the green Scan bar to the left to start the scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display if your system has been infected.
  • It does not provide an option to clean/disinfect. We only require a report from it.
  • Do NOT be alarmed by what you see in the report. Many of the finds have likely been quarantined.
  • Click View scan report at the bottom.
  • Click the Save Report As... button.
  • Click the Save as Text button to save the file to your desktop so that you may post it in your next reply.
**Note**

To optimize scanning time and produce a more sensible report for review:
  • Close any open programs.
  • Turn off the real-time scanner of all antivirus or antispyware programs while performing the online scan.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble viewing the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the bottom right of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Please post the following in your next reply:

Hi Chemist, and thank you for helping me to clean up my laptop. The symptoms I am experiencing are:

My laptop is running slow and dragging. When I try to load IE it hangs (white screen and the home page does not load), and I have to break out and reload several time to get it to load. In additon, switching between IE windows, or other apps, or entering data in fields within these windows or apps takes much longer than normal (hour glass appears and hangs sometimes for several minutes). By the way Google Chrome also hangs and drags as well. So pretty much all apps are hanging and dragging on load and during use regardless of the app.

I am using AVG ver 9 as my virus scanner and it did recently catch a trojan named: Trojan horse PSW.Generic7.BFTP. From the way my machine is operating it appears it was not compeletely removed or there are other viruses or trojans on my machine. I am using IE7 but I plan to upgrade to IE8 once I have resolved these issues.

The Kaspersky Online Scanner log is below:

No apps are still hanging on load, use, and switching between the different apps that are loaded. IE still freezes at white screen and I have to break out and continue trying until it loads.

Hello again, enate. Maybe it's one of your add-ons. Close IE.

Go Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)

Any difference?

Thanks for your response, but the issuse is not just with IE but any program I load. I use IE the most but I also load Word, Excel, Rhapsody, quickbook, etc and whenever I am in any of these program I am noticing the drag/hang time it is taking load, run, etc. For exampel when I am using an app or loading an app, my Rhapsody is skipping, because all the processing power is being used by what I thought was an unseen virus. This was not happen to this extent until I had the virus I mention in the first thread.

Should I install IE8, I don't think that will solve the problem, or since you don't see a virus should I post to another thread? I forgot to mention that when I ran the online scan I got an error message that read "ScanningProcess.exe has encountered an proglem and needs to close" when I clicked OK the scan kept running so I did not stop it. I have a copy of the error box if you want me to attach it to this thread.

When you are experiencing the lag, what process is using all the CPU in Task Manager?

The lag time is constant and can be seen in typing, or thing that requires a response. It is just that some time it is more obvious then at other times. For example as I was typing this reply my typing froze several times and I had to wait for the cursor to return before I could continue.

iexplore.exe is requiring the most mem at 442,998 and the next larges mem hog is something called TeaTimer.exe (at 132,940 mem). I am not sure what this process is do you know? The next larges is System at 97,708. Everything lese is quite a bit less in mem use by thousands of mem bytes.

TeaTimer is part of Spybot, and monitors changes to your registry. It didn't appear as running in your logs. Right-click and End Process on it if you don't use it.

When I meant using all the CPU, I meant the percent usage under the CPU column. When you experience the lag, is one process hogging all the CPU?

System Idle Process uses between 75 and 95 percent. iexplore.exe jumps between 02 and about 17%. The other seem to be staying around 02-09%. The problem is that until it hangs really badly I can't tell since currently it is hanging or lagging but only slightly. I am trying to force it just to example cpu use so I can answer your questions better.

You're welcome. I'll close it out.

Let them know you were here first and cleared of malware.
