Hello all,

LONG time reader but first time poster.

I could surely appreciate some help here. Ok so I have a personal laptop (IBM T43), running on XP, and with it, have the MOST updated McAfee Security Suite. I have Cox Comm here in Northern VA so it comes with my internet package.

So I have my anti-virus automatically run every Thursday morning to check my whole computer. Since I didn't turn my laptop on yesterday (Thursday), it ran today.

Well for the first time in SUCH a long time, McAfee picked up a virus/Trojan. The Trojan was "downloader-bcs". And when McAfee picked it up, it was quarantined immediately (well I hope it was immediately LOL). Has anyone heard of this before? Is it serious? What does it do? How did I get it?

The reason I'm worried is because since the last anti-virus check (last week and it had ZERO discoveries), I have logged on to Facebook, online banking, emails, etc.

Does anyone know if I should be worried? Or change all the passwords in all the accounts I accessed the past week? Weird thing is that I did NOT access any sites outside the ordinary since the last anti-virus check (which was a week ago). So I have no idea who it ended up in my computer.

Please advise.

Thanks,
nova_grrl aka Melanie

Hello Melanie and welcome to TSF.

The intention of the Downloader - BCS is indeed to steal information. McAfee may very well have prevented the trojan from getting into the system. However, that would not go beyond a guess unless confirmed by the logs required in our pre-posting sticky.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined below.

NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help - Tech Support Forum

After running through all the steps, you shall have a proper set of logs. Please post them in a new topic, as this one shall be closed.

If you have trouble with one of the steps, simply move on to the next one, and make note of it in your reply.

Please note that the Virus/Trojan/Spyware Help forum is extremely busy, and it may take a while to receive a reply.
