I want to do a clean reinstall of XP. It boots ok from the CD. But when it gets to the point of dealing w/hard drive - it says there is no drive present. So I get bumped out of the sequence or it crashes. Help, pleease. Thank you ahead of time.

If this is a SATA drive you may need to install the drivers first. You need to hit the F6 at the beginning of the install.

If this is an IDE drive, check your cables

Did this drive work previously?

also
see if your bios sees the hard drive, you might need to take it off auto and select it.
if it is ide it should be pinned as master, and as a stand alone [if possible]going to the ide 1 slot on the mainboard [usually the blue one torwards the inside of the board.]

Geekgirl &whosdat, It is an sata drive - where do I find drivers to install and what does F6 do? The bios does see the drive. Can I send a jpeg screen shot of computer management - it might help you all "see" what I am dealing with??

At the start of the Win XP setup, press F6 to load additional drivers and insert the SATA drivers on a floppy disk when requested. Your board should have come with a floppy, if not you will need to find them on the interent. Look up your motherboards site
